Reid Coolsaet, & Toronto Yonge Street 10K, Sporting Life 10K “de-confused” — We're delighted to be able to announce that Canada's #1 ranked marathoner, the 2011 Canada Running Series Men's Champion, and hopefully London Olympics-bound Reid Coolsaet, has just confirmed that he will return to defend his title at next Spring's Toronto Yonge Street 10K [April 22nd] — or the Sporting Life Toronto 10K as it was in 2011 and for the past 14 years.

St. Lawrence takes title in BEST-EVER Neighbourhood Challenge at the 2011 STWM! — After extensive post-race deliberations that included reviewing TV footage and race-day photos as well as their own reports, this years' four celebrity judges awarded the title of “Neighbourhood Champions” to St. Lawrence, by “the narrowest of margins” over GreekTown.

Koren Yal, Mare Dibaba duel delivers yet more records for Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon — The marvellous duel between Ethiopians Koren Jelela Yal and Mare Dibaba for the women's title at this year's Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon produced not only a thrilling race but a new Course and Canadian All-Comers Record of 2:22:42.5 and a pending African Record for 30K of 1:38:33. The new CR also gave Yal a $35,000 cash bonus from title sponsor, Scotiabank.

"Officially AMAZING" — Guinness reports World Records set at STWM — Last Sunday saw Guinness World Records partner with the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) to give runners the opportunity to set official Guinness World Records in the both the 42.2K marathon and the half marathon (21.09 kilometres). Adrenaline was high as runners braved the cold and 35 MPH wind to strive for greatness within Canada's largest city.

Was Ed Whitlock's 80+ WR THE finest performance of an astonishing day? — Whitlock shatters his own age-class record in T.O. — It takes an awful lot for Ed Whitlock to put aside even a bit of his modest demeanour. Yesterday morning's performance qualified as one of those rare occurrences — just barely. “Yes, I guess it was the best one I've done this year,” said the always soft-spoken, humble Miltonian, expressing a little more satisfaction than is usually conveyed after one of his world record-setting runs. “I'm quite pleased with my finish, especially given the weather conditions, which were hardly ideal.”

100-year-old marathoner sets record in Toronto — Fauja Singh finishes in 8 hours to become oldest person to complete full marathon — Fauja Singh secured a spot in the Guiness World Book of Records on Sunday at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. The 100-year-old accomplished an amazing feat, completing the gruelling 42.195-kilometre marathon and becoming the oldest person ever to complete a full-distance marathon.

Canadians Coolsaet and Gillis qualify for London Olympics at 2011 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon — TORONTO, Oct. 16, 2011 /CNW/ - Today was a spectacular day for Canadian pride at the 2011 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM), with Canadian runners Reid Coolsaet and Eric Gillis qualifying for the London Olympics. It might seem a curious reaction to such a splendid acknowledgement but Singh is hardly a typical British old age pensioner.

Unbeatable Coolsaet, unstoppable Pidhoresky crown “Special Day” at OASIS ZooRun — It FELT like a special day at Toronto Zoo today, for Canada Running Series' Oasis ZooRun, that doubled as the Athletics Canada National 10K Road Race Championships and the Timex National Series Grand Finale. From the moment dawn broke with sunny skies, after a day of monsoon-like rains, there was a buzz, a palpable excitement in the air. Ambitious Dibaba Looking for Ethiopian Olympic Place — The Contenders, Part 4: by Paul Gains — With defending Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon champion Sheron Cherop representing Kenya at the 2011 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Daegu, Korea, last week (and winning the bronze medal!) the women's STWM race ought to be wide open. But nobody needs to tell Mare Dibaba that. The 21 year old Ethiopian has been on a tear since her debut marathon in Rome in March 2010 where she ran 2:25:38. Seven months later she improved her best time to 2:25:27 in Frankfurt placing 5th in an impressive field.

Coolsaet Close to Olympic Berth — The Contenders, Part 1: by Paul Gains — Reid Coolsaet never imagined he'd be on the brink of an Olympic Games berth when he ran cross country for Hamilton's Westdale Secondary School back two decades ago. A mediocre athlete, whose goal was nothing more than joining his girlfriend in qualifying for the provincial high school cross country championships, Coolsaet finished 18th in the 1997 race. In the absence of scholarship offers he joined coach Dave Scott-Thomas at the University of Guelph. The partnership has certainly paid off.
