CANADA RUNNING SERIES / CIRCUIT DU CANADA
36th annual ING James Cunningham Seawall Race
29 October, 2006 — Vancouver, British Columbia
After finishing second overall in 2004 and 2005, Steve Osaduik of Nanaimo was victorious in
2006 to win the 36th Annual 9.5K ING JAMES CUNNINGHAM SEAWALL RACE in Vancouver BC (final
event of the Canada Running Series). Tina Connelly of New Westminster defended her 2005 win
with a 2006 victory as the overall female winner.
A vicious overnight windstorm, which caused three ocean freighters to collide in English
Bay in view of the Stanley Park seawall, also wreaked havoc with pre-race preparations,
toppling tents and sending race organizers (Lions Gate Road Runners) scrambling to set-up in
the up to 70 kph winds. Just prior to race start, the winds miraculously stopped and the race
continued under almost ideal fall running conditions.
Currently ranked as the #1 marathoner in Canada after his victory at the Royal Victoria
Marathon, Steve Osaduik beat Philip Rist of Switzerland to win the 9.5K race in a time of
29:18. Rist finished second (29:53) and Matt Johnston of Vancouver third (30:55).
Women's winner Tina Connelly finished in a time of 33:37 and also finished 16th overall.
Tina was followed by the 2006 Royal Victoria Marathon Winner, Suzanne Evans (34:53) and masters
runner Nancy Tinari (34:57).
First Masters runner (40+) was Paul Reimer of BC, finishing in a time of 33:24. Tinari
repeated as top female masters runner.
