Volunteer Information
Each event requires anywhere from 200 to 1500 volunteers in order to run smoothly.
Benefits of volunteering with the Canada Running Series:
- Transportation is provided for groups with over 25 volunteers
- A food pack for every volunteer
- A free volunteer shirt
- We will provide a demonstration/training session at the volunteer group location (school, running club, etc.)
- A great way to give back to the community and receive your community service hours needed to graduate high school
“The transportation was more than we expected. We usually get a thank
you letter and card for our work. This positive feedback is more than words can say and...
it's beyond positive! It just shows us that your organization appreciates our time and effort
and... it feels good : )”

Canada Running Series Volunteer Positions
Packet Pick Up
- RACE DAY
1-2 hours before the race, hand out race packets to pre-registered participants until the race begins. - PRE-RACE
Two or three days prior to event day, packet pick-up is held at a local retailer to distribute race kits to pre-registered participants. Packet Pick-up is normally open from 9:00am to 9:00pm and volunteers are needed throughout the day.
Water Station
- At each event there are water / Gatorade stations to help keep participants hydrated. Each event has a water station at the start / finish and approximately every 3 kilometres (i.e. 10k has 4 stations). Approximately 50 people are needed to keep cups filled and hand them to runners as they come by.
Food / Party Area
- Food and drink are available for all participants. Volunteers assist with food and beverage set-up for race participants at the party area. Replenish items as needed.
Chip recovery
- Most events use a technology called ChampionChip Timing—each participant wears a small chip, which helps us keep track of each runner's time.
- Before the run, everybody must pick up a chip from the timing tent according to their run number.
- After the event, in the finish line area, volunteers collect the timing chips from runners after they cross the finish line.
Race Crew
- Help with the setup and clean up of the race area and course—starting a few hours before race start and finishing a few hours after the event finishes.
- Be a part of the planning! There are many exciting
positions within the committee:
- Medical Crew
- Distribution
- Volunteers coordinator
- Hospitality and VIP
- Running Club liaison
