2009 Report: Beaches Jazz Tune Up Run hits a high note!

1000 runners start the Beaches Jazz Tune-Up

TORONTO, July 26th, 2009. A remarkable 1,000 runners and a few walkers turned out for the Beaches Jazz Tune Up Training Run, held on the Martin Goodman Trail from Kew Gardens this morning. The number was double that of 2008.

This was the third in a Series of 5 Tune Up runs held in conjunction with the Running Room, to help prepare people for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Half and 5K. The participants were divided amongst 20K, 10K and 5K distances, accompanied by some of the STWM Pacers, depending on their goals for September [marathon, half or 5K]. Participants were drawn from across the GTA and as far away as Ottawa, and were greeted by relatively cool, but humid conditions between 17 and 20°C.

high-five!

Groups from Running Room Clinics at Rosedale, Yonge Street, York Mills, Vaughan and The Beach strutted their stuff, and STWM Race Director, Alan Brookes, was much impressed with the fitness and enthusiasm on display, with 9 weeks to go to Toronto Waterfront "M" day. "We're really blown away," said Brookes. "Clearly, there are LOTS of folks who want to practice with a semi-structured tune-up run before the big day, and the $5 ticket for the STWM Tune Up Runs is a big hit!"
