Alan's Journal

alan brookes Dear Fellow Runners,

It feels like it’s been a while since I last wrote. We had a great time in Vancouver at the Scotia Half, and then back to T.O. for a much warmer, but also successful Acura Toronto 10 Miler & 5K. Our photo and video crews are doing SUCH great jobs at the CRS events –- really leading-edge in North America -- that we have great visual records of our events this year. The video interviews are just super, and I know you’ll love the new format for the photo galleries that make viewing-as-a-slideshow much easier and more user-friendly. If you haven’t checked them out yet, I strongly encourage you to do so.

I’m getting ready to get “up in the air” again tomorrow, to go down to Moncton for the IAAF World Junior Championships. Our own CRS’ Mihira Lakshman is already down there covering the Championships for CBC with daily coverage, a blog, and there’s LIVE streaming of everything. Again, something WELL worth a look, as our sport becomes more and more accessible with the “new” media. It’s a chance to see some of the best Juniors in the world. There will be a few familiar Canadian faces to cheer for, and you can see Merima Mohammed who won the Ottawa Marathon here in May at only 19 years old, running the Women’s 5,000m for Ethiopia TONIGHT. Catch it all at http://www.cbc.ca/sports/amateur/moncton2010/

AND, follow me on TWITTER, as I continue to tweet regular updates from Moncton and on CRS and STWM news and inside info as it breaks! http://twitter.com/alnbrookes

For example, Ian Ladbrooke and I have now COMPLETED the Elite Start List for STWM 29010, and I can say without doubt, it’s the best field we’ve ever had – by far. Watch out as we begin to release the names!!

As well, Bonnie and I have been meeting with the various neighbourhoods and groups to line up the best-ever on-course entertainment for us all on September 26th. It is going to be a blast!

Gotta run. More from Moncton, via Twitter,

Alan

PS. For those of you in the GTA, please consider joining us, and coming out to see Canada’s best “Seniors” athletes at the Canadian National Track & Field Championships. You’ll recognize many of them from TV [like Priscilla Lopes-Schliep & Perdita Felicien], and the distance folks from CRS races – people like Eric Gillis, Reid Coolsaet, Leslie Sexton and Kip Kangogo who won the Vancouver Half. It’s at Varsity Centre, July 28th-31st, and a great BUZZ to see it “live”. Details and tickets http://www.athletics.ca/toronto2010
