Alan's Journal

alan brookes Dear Fellow Runners,

Things are happening fast and furious now as we move into overdrive for the final 5 weeks into STWM.

The announcement that our champion for the last 2 years, Kenneth Mungara, and Daniel Rono, our 2006 champ, will both be returning to duel it out is GREAT news. Daniel was also 2nd to John Kelai in our memorable 2007 edition, when both men ran under the 31-year old mark for the fastest marathon ever on Canadian soi [2:09:30 & 2:09:35]l. That was a record [2:09:55] that had stood since the Montreal Olympics in 1976! And then Kenneth took it down another minute last year, to 2:08:32.

Add this to our earlier announcement of Canadians Eric Gillis, Reid Coolsaet and Matt Gillis set to duke it out with the Africans and run the fastest Canadian times in 15 years, and it’s shaping up to be our best-ever race.

The 2010 medals and t-shirts are all posted on www.stwm.ca now, and all definitely look worth running for, as souvenirs from an unforgettable weekend for all us.

I hope all your long runs went well yesterday. Only a couple more left now, before that lovely “taper”! Take a moment to check out the medals, shirts and latest news, and keep your eyes on the website. We’re also very close to publishing a VERY strong line-up of Expo Speakers, and not one but two inspiring anthem singers for the Start.

Everything is shaping up for a truly blockbuster weekend, September 24th-26th.

Follow things daily with me on Twitter, and if you haven’t already done so, ENTER TODAY and save yourself $10!

Gotta run,

Alan
