Clif's Notes

Clif Cunningham Dear Fellow Runners,

It's hectic, but exciting. Our numbers are up in both events and growing steadily. Register today, online (your last day online) to guarantee your registration.

We will be announcing some walk up caps on both events this week. If you register today online, your in. If you are waiting until the expo to register in person, you will pay more and we will be announcing a cap so you may be disappointed. We have to balance the numbers with the supply, the number of medals, the number of shirts and the food we have onsite. We want to ensure that the runners at the back of the pack, get treated as well as the front and don't miss out on any of the excitement or perks.

Here are some great race week tips from our friend Mike at the Peak Centre for Human Performance -

Race Week

1) Don’t cram – training isn’t like studying – cramming doesn’t work! Running 20k the weekend before the race just to see if you can will leave you fatigued and will hurt your performance on race day. Instead, do 2-3 short easy runs of 20-40 minutes maximum with some short race pace intervals through the week.

2) Stick with what you know. By all means take advantage of all of the great deals you’ll find at the race expo but save anything new to try after the race. You don’t want any surprises out there so make sure you race in familiar clothing, shoes and socks and use nutrition that you’ve been training with.

3) Take care of yourself. Try and get some extra sleep, make sure you eat well and do whatever you can to keep your stress level down during the week of the race.

4) Don’t eat anything new or unusual the day before the race. Stick to foods you eat regularly that aren’t too spicy, salty or too heavy.

Mike has 12 tips in total for you - read more online at - http://www.canadarunningseries.com/newsletter/2010/images/10-SVHM-RaceWeekTips.pdf

Overall, keep it simple, stress free and run for the fun of it.

Keep it on the roads,

Clif
