The BC Neurofibromatosis Foundation
Neurofibromatosis, commonly referred to as NF, is the umbrella name for three distinct genetic disorders that share a common manifestation: tumour growth. NF is unpredictable and can lead to any number of health issues including disfigurement, skin, brain and spinal tumours, loss of limbs, and learning disabilities, and cancer. With more than 10,000 Canadians affected, NF is the most common single gene disorder in this country. Despite the size of the problem, NF suffers from low awareness amongst the general public and medical communities, impacting the lives of Canadians diagnosed with and affected by NF. The BCNF makes a difference by supporting families across the province, increasing awareness and supporting research.
