Big Sisters of BC Lower MainlandSince 1960, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland has been committed to enhancing the confidence, self-esteem and well-being of girls through supportive friendships with caring women. These friendships are facilitated through two core programs: Big and Little Sister Program: Matches girls aged 7 to 17 in one-to-one mentoring friendships with trained female volunteers. Matches get together once a week to do fun activities they both enjoy such as crafts, going to the park, and just hanging out together. Study Buddy Program: Offers girls aged 7 to 17 the educational support they need by matching them in one-to-one relationships with volunteer tutors. Many of the girls in our programs need a special person in their life who will encourage them and be there for them. Our volunteer mentors are "champions" for these girls; they provide them with a friend they can rely on as they make their way in life. Join Team Big Sisters! Here's your chance to participate in one of Canada's most scenic runs and raise funds for Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland at the same time! Funds raised through the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon and 5k will go directly to support the mentoring programs and services at Big Sisters, and allow us to match more deserving girls with a caring mentor. Help sponsor a match. It costs our organization $2,000 to make and maintain one Big and Little Sister match for one year. We are currently supporting 328 active matches with a goal of supporting 500 matches by 2010. The first three people to raise $2,000 will receive a special Big Sisters prize!
