What is the Charity Challenge?

Introduced 10 years ago at Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, the Charity Challenge allows multiple charities to "piggy-back" on our CRS running events at no cost, no risk or "exposure" to them. Furthermore, CRS provides a free, online pledge/fundraising service to participating, approved "Official Charities".

The charities simply have to recruit their runners (who pay an entry fee to the race that goes to CRS to cover costs of staging the event) and focus all their efforts on fundraising. The charities then have access to a high-tech, user-friendly online fundraising resource. The concept allows our sport of running to act as a platform for SO many more charities, and give back to so many different corners of our community. It offers us a much broader choice on who to run or walk for in our favourite events.

In 2012, the Scotiabank Charity Challenge at Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon hosted 167 charities who raised over $4.3 million. Since its inception in 2003 the Challenge at STWM has raised over $17 million! (www.torontowaterfrontmarathon.com/en/charity.htm)

Important rules:

  1. Fundraising totals and awards will be based on standings at 12:00pm on Monday, May 20, 2013.
  2. No charity can win more than one award. In the event that a charity should win in more than one category, they will be awarded the prize for the category in which they have the widest margin of victory; the second place finisher(s) in the affected category/categories will then win the other award(s).

Best Dressed Costume: Be a hero and win $ for a charity

marathon costume winners

Will you be one of the "heroes" at the Toronto Yonge Street 10K who dresses in costume and not only adds LOTS of fun to your day, but wins money for one of the great charities associated with the race? Costumes invariably catch the eye of spectators, our photographers and the media so imagine how fun that will be if you're a media star!

Dressing in costume could win you one of the 3 awards for the "Best Dressed" on the day, AND it will generate even more publicity for the charity you choose.

All costumes will be judged by 3 Celebrity / Media Judges at the Finish Line. Please note that to win you have to finish the race in your costume and the prize money must go to one of the TYS10K-CRS Foundation Official Charities to allocate their prize money.
