What is the Charity Challenge?

Introduced 9 years ago at Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, the Charity Challenge allows multiple charities to "piggy-back" on our CRS running events at no cost, no risk or "exposure" to them. Furthermore, CRS provides a free, online pledge/fundraising service to participating, approved "Official Charities".

The charities simply have to recruit their runners (who pay an entry fee to the race that goes to CRS to cover costs of staging the event) and focus all their efforts on fundraising. The charities then get to keep all of the pledge monies raised for their causes (minus only a 5% processing fee that goes to the external service-provider and credit card fees). The concept allows our sport of running to act as a platform for SO many more charities, and give back to so many different corners of our community. It offers us a much broader choice on who to run or walk for in our favourite events.

Last year, the Scotiabank Group Charity Challenge at Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon hosted 154 charities who raised a whopping $3,647,729.76. Since its inception in 2003 the Challenge at STWM has raised $12,764,602.24! (www.torontowaterfrontmarathon.com/en/charity.htm)

Important rules:

  1. Fundraising totals and awards will be based on standings at 12:00pm on Monday, May 14, 2012.
  2. No charity can win more than one award. In the event that a charity should win in more than one category, they will be awarded the prize for the category in which they have the widest margin of victory; the second place finisher(s) in the affected category/categories will then win the other award(s).

Best Dressed Costume: win $ for your charity

marathon costume winners

Dressing up for the occasion of the Toronto Yonge Street 10K not only adds LOTS of fun to your day, as you strut your stuff down Canada's most-famous street in your "Sunday Best" — it also generates awareness for your cause as costumes invariably catch the eye of spectators, our photographers and the media! If you can win one of the 3 awards for the "Best Dressed" on the day, it's an added bonus, and even more publicity for your charity.

All costumes will be judged by 3 Celebrity / Media Judges at the Finish Line. Please note that you have to finish the race in your costume!

PLEASE NOTE that Winners must choose from one of the CRS Foundation TYS10K Official Charities to allocate their prize money.

So who will you be? Fred Flintstone yelling 'Yabba Dabba Doo', Buzz Lightyear racing to infinity and beyond, or Superwoman hoping to be the fastest female super hero to cross the finish line?
